An internship is an unpaid, training position that allows students to gain hands-on experience in a workplace environment relevant to their area of future career interest and current course of academic studies. The AIIA places students in organisations, companies, government agencies, non-profits, and other workplaces that will provide students a first hand look at what a career in a particular area might be like and how their chosen industry works.

These internships are based in Sydney, Australia, where our 8 week program gives students an international experience that is very valuable for building their professional development and resumes while supplementing their current course of academic study in their home country and institution. The AIIA’s extensive network of partner organizations that accept unpaid interns includes some of the most prestigious multinational corporations and influential government and non-government organizations, providing our students with some of the best opportunities for workplace experience, networking, and resume building.

In addition to the 8 weeks of internship work experience in Sydney, the AIIA internship program includes a 6 day, 5 night orientation program in Cairns, Australia in the state of Queensland. The orientation program in Cairns includes, an introduction to Australian culture, a visit to a crocodile farm and a day trip on the Great Barrier Reef. The Great Barrier Reef is the world’s largest coral reef ecosystem and the largest protected marine area in the world and one of the most visited destinations in Australia.

During this orientation period, students have a chance to recover from the long flight to Australia, get to know the other students participating in the internship program with them, and participate in these great adventure and cultural activities before hitting the 9-5 schedule in the city of Sydney. Our orientation program in Cairns is on of the most popular aspects of the internship package offered by the AIIA.

ohio state university summer australia program 2011   "The Australia Program gave me a fantastic opportunity to gain work experience in my field in another country, and when i returned to the US they offered me a job! I can now continue my studies and work in a job that will help me in my future career.

I also made lots of good friends, both on the program and during my travels in Australia who I would not have met otherwise."
